antibiotic resistance of enterobacteriaceae isolated from the domestic food related environments

چکیده
background: multidrug resistant enterobacteriaceae which was confined to the hospital environments is now emerging in the domestic food related environments as well. the main objective of the present study was to investigate the prevalence of antibiotic resistant enterobacteriaceae in the domestic food related environments. methods: resistance to ampicillin, chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacin, gentamicin, tetracycline, nalidixic acid, nitrofurantoin, and trimethoprim was evaluated in 125 isolates collected in domestic food related environments using agar micro dilution method. results: results indicated that 49.6% of the isolates were resistant to at least one antibiotic (32.8% to ampicillin, 6.4% to nitrofurantoin, 4% to tetracycline, 3.2% to nalidixic acid, 2.4% to chloramphenicol and 1.7% to trimethoprim). resistance to multiple antibiotics was observed in 6.4% of the isolates. conclusion: this study implicates existence of antibiotic resistant enterobactericeae in the domestic food related environments. this resistance phenomenon requires continual vigilance and further studies are required to evaluate the role of domestic surfaces in the transmission of resistant pathogens and spread of infectious diseases.

متن کاملComparison of enterobacteriaceae antibiotic resistance pattern isolated from hospital admitted patients and outpatients urine culture
Introduction: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common infections and Enterobacteriaceae members are the most common bacterial agent of this infection. Antibiotic susceptibility pattern identification is necessary for complete treatment. In this way, this study was accomplished to compare the enterobacteriaceae antibiotic resistance pattern of UTI patients. Materials and Methods:...
متن کاملAntimicrobial resistance pattern of citrobacter species isolated from food outbreaks
Background: Foodborne diseases and resistance to antimicrobial agents are two of the world's most widespread global issues. Also, the excessive use of antibiotics has led to the resistance of bacteria belonging to the Enterobacteriaceae family to antibiotics, especially in carbapenems. Citrobacter is an opportunistic bacterium that is resistant to antibiotics in the emerging bacteria and has ...
متن کاملAntibiotic resistance mechanisms in Enterobacteriaceae
Enterobacteriaceae species are important human pathogens while increasing number of antibiotic resistant strains are detected worldwide. The most common antibiotic resistance in Enterobacteriaceae is observed against beta-lactams, fluoroquinolones, aminoglycosides while recently resistance to polymyxins has also appeared. Beta-lactam resistance is mainly conferred by beta-lactamases, capable to...
متن کاملAntibiotic Resistance of the Isolated Bacteria from Blood Cultures of Cancer Patients
Abstract Background and Objective: One of the main causes of increased mortality in cancer patients is bacteremia. On the other hand, antibiotic resistance is the major cause of treatment failure in malignant diseases especially in hematological malignancies. The aim of this study was to diagnose the bacterial strains isolated from blood specimens of cancer patients and to determine their antib...
متن کاملAntibiotic Resistance of Kidney Stones and Urine Isolated Bacteria from the Patients Under Going Nephrolithotomy
Abstract Background and objectives: Infection stones are the directly due to persistent or recurrent infection with Urease producing bacteria. they may be exacerbated by urinary obstruction or stasis. Also, some drug components like ciprofloxacin can be the cause of stone formation. We aimed at studing antibiotic resistance of bacteria isolated form kidney stones and Urinary tract infection(UtI...
